Frequently Asked Questions
How soon can I get paxlovid/antivirals?
We aim to call you back within 10-20 minutes, and often the prescription can be sent within 1 hour to a pharmacy of your choosing
Is paxlovid safe?
Yes. The oral antiviral medication currently recommended in New Zealand (Paxlovid) is safe, and has been approved by Medsafe.
How much does it cost?
We charge a consult fee for assessing your eligibility and making a prescription for you (a detailed review of your medical conditions, medications, and previous renal function and liver tests). The charge in standard hours is $90. Please see our fees page for more details.
If we find that you are eligible for antivirals, the actual cost of the medication ($2000) is paid by Pharmac. If we find you are not eligible, then you may choose whether you pay the full cost of the medication yourself or not.
Do I really need antivirals?
If you are over 65 or have other medical conditions, this means that you have a higher risk of getting complications from COVID or being hospitalised. Antivirals are designed to prevent this from happening, and are recommended for all who are eligible.
I'm from overseas. What are my options?
Australian or British/UK residents may be eligible for funded Paxlovid under reciprocal agreements (meaning they do not pay the $2000 medication cost if eligible.) A $190 consult fee does apply, and we can provide documentation for claiming your insurance if required.
All other nationalities are able to receive Paxlovid if they are able to self fund the full cost of the medication.
I'm a household contact of someone who is positive. Can I get antivirals too?
If you develop symptoms and you are eligible, then yes you can. If you are an eligible household contact who has not yet developed symptoms, then we can arrange a back pocket prescription for Paxlovid. This means that in the event you develop symptoms, you can get access to antivirals quickly. Please call us to discuss.
Can you deliver?
In most instances delivery can be arranged.
I have another question...
Either call us, or send us a text message through our contact form, and we can give you a text message response, or call us.
